Upcoming Public Meeting on SR-16 Construction Through Snake Lake
· Posted Wednesday August 23, 2006 by jamie
Received from the Central Neighborhood Council:
A public meeting on WSDOT request regarding the wetland permit for SR-16 work in Snake Lake is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Snake Lake Nature Center.
The purpose of the public meeting is to provide information about the proposal to the public and to obtain feedback on the proposal from the public to assist the City of Tacoma Land Use Administrators’ Office in making a decision on the proposal. The public meeting is not a formal public hearing.
Written comments on the proposal will be accepted until September 22, 2006.
Snake Lake is a great nature preserve in the heart of the city. If you have not been there before, it is a must-see, even with the current closures at the south end of the park for WSDOT construction. There is a lot of great waterfowl to see, including rare wood ducks, and it is remarkably quiet for being right next to Stevens/Tyler and SR-16. We’ve got some great pictures that I’ll try to add later…
We absolutely need to do everything possible to minimize the impact of construction on Snake Lake, both for habitat reasons and to provide a great urban oasis.
Updated: A few pictures of the Snake Lake Nature Center…
