Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Tacoma
· Posted Friday June 2, 2006 by jamie
Seems like you always hear about famous people being from Tacoma, but none of them actually live(d) here after hitting it big: Bing Crosby, Neko Case, Ahmad Rashad, Dale Chihuly, etc.
A totally different case is hipster singer Rickie Lee Jones, who had a big hit in the late 70s with “Chuck E’s In Love”. Chicago-born, and spending parts of her childhood in Olympia, she moved to Tacoma with her daughter in the late 90s. She has since moved back to L.A., but this relic survives on her website:
It’s nice to think there’s room here for artists who aren’t our native sons/daughters. I wonder why it doesn’t happen more often.
