So, I'm Working on a Little Project...

A while back I came up with a little idea to pull together a marching band for the Sixth Ave Dia de los Muertos procession. Despite the cool puppets and some good guitar music under the tent last year, the procession itself was sort of quiet. So I though maybe it would liven things up to add a little bit of mariachi-ish brass to the mix (emphasis on the “-ish”).
The organizers seemed cool with the idea, so now I’m about 90% done arranging horn parts, I’ve found someone who can help with drum arrangements (hi, Mike!), and essentially committed myself, somehow, to making this thing a “go”. All that remains is finding enough people to actually execute the plan.
In the back of my head, part of me wonders what the hell I’m thinking. I’m sorta worried I’m not going to be able to find enough people, or that it’s going to otherwise end up embarrassing me in one way or another. But I’m trying to soldier through—gotta seize the day, right? And if this is successful, and enough people are interested, I’m thinking it would be fun to keep the group alive as something of a “guerrilla marching band” that shows up at various things around town…
I’m going to put more formal “musicians wanted” in some other places (various local forums, maybe Craigslist), but if you’re reading this and you want to play, hit the contact page and let me know…
Also, if this band does go beyond the gig to become a full-fledged Tacoma institution (ha!), I’m thinking we need a good band name. Something with a bit of whimsy, a bit of power, and definitely something uniquely Tacoma. The name “Museum of Brass” has been floating around my head, but I’m still not sure I’m happy with it. Ideas in the comments, please!

I love this idea and LOVE the name, though perhaps it should be “Museum of Brass and Contemporary Music”. More power (and marchers) to you. Unfortunately, I only play guitar and harmonica, but I promise to be part of the cheering crowd.
