Friday Night at Showcase Tacoma and Stadium Bistro

· Posted Monday August 13, 2007 by jamie

Busy weekend for us (what with all of the Costner activities) so we had to celebrate our Saturday “nuptual-versary” on Friday night, and we made the best of it by hitting the city for visits to the Showcase Tacoma festival and late dinner at Stadium Bistro.

The Showcase was great. I’ve heard a lot of people say it felt small, but I thought the move to concentrate things in Tollefson Plaza and the “artist alley” area was a good move compared to how distributed things were last year…though I can’t speak to how things might have evolved Saturday or Sunday because I wasn’t there. Anyway, we heard some great music, saw a bit of the tail-end of Iron Artist at TAM, and saw a ton of people: bloggers, people from past jobs, people from bands we’ve played in, etc. Not to mention meeting some great people in the Pacific Grill wine garden. And, might I add, that is a great location for outdoor dining—far enough removed from the Pacific Ave traffic, and a great view of the plaza below. I wish the Marriott folks had included restaurant space at that end of their ugly behemoth so I could go sip a glass of Cabernet up there more often…

All of that chatting and visiting made us late for our reservations at Stadium Bistro, but we did finally make it. Now, we’ve heard recommendation after recommendation for the place, but this was our first visit. What an experience. The atmosphere was wonderful, nice and open feeling, and the art on the walls helps to make it look a bit less sparse then when they first opened. Starter salads were creative and delicious. We requested vegetarian meals when we made our reservations, so Chef Pete whipped up some awesome pastry-wrapped vegetables served with a side of green beans. And dessert items were hard to choose, but our waitress Bekka happens to also be the pastry chef, so she was able to point us towards the best-of-the-best. We left full, satisfied but craving more. We’ll definitely go back—we’re looking forward to ordering off of the tapas menu next time!
