Costner in Tacoma, Part III

· Posted Tuesday August 14, 2007 by jamie

Part III of ThriceAllAmerican’s journeys with Kevin Costner in Tacoma:

As we headed back across the Tideflats after viewing the Kalakala, Costner expressed a certain interest in a Tacoma location he’d heard about on the news. So we pulled off along Puyallup Avenue, and a quick costume change later the stage was set for a photo-op. I’m not sure what to make of it all, but let’s just say that he’s not so good with that bow and I’m glad we were close enough to home to swing by for a change of underpants.

Tomorrow: Things get a bit political…

Send pictures of your Costner sightings to costnerintacoma(at)thriceallamerican(dot)com. We’ll feature some of the best later this week.

  1. I don’t have a pic of Kevin’s visit, but I do have a story. Way back in 1991 or so my family was in LA and we visited the Observatory at the top of Mt. Palomar, which is only accessible by a long and winding road.

Later that night, the family went to see Edward Scissorhands in Pasadena, when we realized that in front of us was Kevin Costner and his wife (they asked the usher if the theater was going to get Prince of Thieves).

After the movie and a lot of candy, we were leaving the theater when suddenly the line stopped.

Right in front of us, Kevin Costner was kneeling over my sister, who—after the long and windy road to Mt. Palomar and then lots of theater candy—had thrown up on Kevin Costner’s alligator boots.

Kevin’s wife gave him some kleenex and he cleaned my sister up (and his boots) and sent her on her way.

Later we saw him wearing the same boots during an interview.

So my prediction for why he’s in Tacoma is that he was re-visiting my sister after 16 years apart.
