Costner in Tacoma, Part I

· Posted Sunday August 12, 2007 by jamie

The News Tribune is buzzing about Kevin Costner’s flight into Tacoma Narrows Airport on Friday and various “star sightings” around town at such fancy-pants locations as the EQC and the Dupont Starbucks. (Inquiring minds want to know: which Dupont Starbucks? Ok, maybe “inquiring minds” don’t really care…) Heck, the paper is even looking for reader tips regarding where he’s been and what he’s up to. Maybe we’re a small town after all, getting so excited over a visiting actor, even a washed up one like Costner… But what the News Tribune doesn’t know is that ThriceAllAmerican was given exclusive access to tag along with Costner, his wife Christine Baumgartner, and their entire entourage to see what they were up to. And let me tell, you, it was a whirlwind visit! As such, all this week, we’ll be bringing you highlights from the visit.

Those following the story closely—all 7 of you—are doubtless wondering: what’s with the guitar?

(Previously posted photo removed at the request of The News Tribune…just imagine a picture of Kevin Costner getting into a car in front of an airplane, while someone in the background is carrying a guitar case…)

As noted in the TNT article, Costner is something of a rock musician, and what self-respecting musician could visit Tacoma without swinging by the world famous Bob’s Java Jive. Unfortunately for Costner, it was early, and the kettle wasn’t open for business. But he was determined, so we were treated to an impromptu concert outside—they even busted out the microphones. I couldn’t hear anything over the traffic noise from South Tacoma Way and the Nalley Valley Viaduct, but he looked to be having fun…

Tomorrow: Be sure to come back for part two of Costner in Tacoma, where we visit a Northwest icon. And there is a bit of yelling.

Send pictures of your Costner sightings to costnerintacoma(at)thriceallamerican(dot)com. We’ll feature some of the best later this week.
