Bike Station: An Idea for Tacoma?

· Posted Thursday May 3, 2007 by jamie

In continuing observation of Bike to Work Month, I bring you this video about the Berkely Bikestation, which can store up to 77 bikes at any given time, free to the users. I realize there are some bike lockers at the Tacoma Dome Station, but they require a certain level of pre-registration from what I understand. It seems like something of this caliber there could serve both people commuting by bike into Tacoma, and people who could leave their bikes at the station while taking the bus or train to other locations. I wonder whether their repair services and retail sales cover the costs of operation?

  1. There’s a Bikestation in Pioneer Square in Seattle too — 311 3rd Ave S. I’ve thought about using it and keeping a bike on both the Seattle and Tacoma ends of my (joyous) commute, but have just gone for using the ST Express bus bike racks instead.

  2. The Bikestation in Seattle is in the perfect location for taking the Sounder. I came very close to making that my commute a few years back, and taking a bike in and out of the city would have been an interesting way to go.
