Tacoma City Marathon

· Posted Monday December 18, 2006 by jamie

A little bird tipped me off to this over the weekend, maybe it was already in the paper and I missed it…

Apparently the first ever Tacoma City Marathon is in the works for next May. I’m not too much of a runner myself (maybe I’ll think about training for 10k or half marathon), but I still think this is an exciting way to bring outsiders into the city and show off some of our charm.

The course looks somewhat hilly. Out of downtown into the North Slope, then back downtown and out Ruston Way, around the Five Mile Drive at Point Defiance, and then back towards the bridge before following the Scott Pierson Trail along SR 16 to get back downtown.

I would have liked to see some sections coming along Proctor or Sixth, but I understand that closing cross-streets makes the logistics a lot harder. Oh, and word is that in year two the course will be modified to include a crossing of the new Narrows Bridge.

Sounds cool.
