Suck It, TAGRO
· Posted Wednesday September 13, 2006 by jamie
Looks as if Pierce County is trying to steal a bit of the lucrative poop-dirt market away from the City of Tacoma. Tacoma has for years offered TAGRO, soil mixes produced from our very own, um, biosolids. Now the county is coming back at them with SoundGro, a organic biosolid-based fertilizer from the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. Ok, so maybe it’s not direct competition, but more of a complimentary product. Or should that be “byproduct”...
Anyway, if your interest is piqued, there is an open house September 23rd to celebrate the launch of SoundGro. Here are the details:
Pierce County residents are invited to attend an open house at the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Saturday, Sept. 23 to celebrate the grand opening of the county’s Fertilizer Manufacturing Facility. SoundGro, a Class A Exceptional Quality organic, pelletized fertilizer, is produced at the plant.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a brief program at noon featuring District 7 Councilmember Terry Lee, Chief of Staff Lyle Quasim and Public Works and Utilities Department Director Brian Ziegler. The open house will feature Chambers Creek WWTP and Chambers Creek Properties educational exhibits. County staff will be available to answer questions and provide guided walking tours (walking shoes are encouraged) of the facility.
The Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant is located in the City of University Place at 10311 Chambers Creek Road W. Built in 1984, the plant provides advanced secondary treatment and has received national and local awards for excellence.
In 2005 the plant treated an average of 16.9 million gallons per day of wastewater and provided sewer service to the communities of University Place, Lakewood, DuPont, Northwest Landing, Parkland, Spanaway, Frederickson, and South Hill. The facility is located in a 180-acre reserve within the larger 930-acre Chambers Creek Properties.

That’s right, walking shoes are encouraged. There’s a joke in there somewhere…
